District to hold informational meeting Jan. 22 on new septic replacement cost-share opportunity

PALATKA, Fla., Dec. 15, 2017 — The St. Johns River Water Management District is introducing a new cost-share funding opportunity for local governments and utilities within the springsheds of Volusia Blue, Wekiwa and Silver Springs to replace septic tanks with more efficient systems. The district will hold an informational meeting for the new program on Jan. 22 at its Palatka headquarters.

State funds will cover 50 percent and the district will contribute 25 percent toward a program to replace septic tanks with more efficient systems for the removal of nitrates. With up to $1.5 million in funding available, this program is targeted for areas where extending sewer lines may not be feasible.
