Groundwater modeling

Find information about the modeling work the District does and the models for observing groundwater flow. Also learn about ongoing work to develop a groundwater model for north Florida/southeast Georgia.

Groundwater monitoring networks

The District monitors a variety of wells throughout the District’s 18-county service area to determine changes in groundwater quality and quantity.

Hydrogeology

Read an overview of the hydrogeology in the District and how this influences aquifer recharge. Use the Hydrogeologic Information System tool to explore the dynamics of the aquifer system by creating maps, charts and graphs based on a database of well information.

Groundwater resource assessment

The groundwater resource assessment program within the Bureau of Engineering and Hydro Science provides hydrogeologic evaluations and field services in support of St. Johns River Water Management District activities. Northeast and east-central Florida rely on groundwater to meet more than 90 percent of its water supply needs and accurate water level, water quality, and hydrogeologic data and information are required to characterize and evaluate groundwater resources.

The groundwater resource assessment program provides the scientific expertise and experience needed to understand the unique hydrogeology in the District and surrounding areas. The modeling section develops groundwater models used to represent the natural groundwater flow environment and to predict the effects of hydrologic changes on the aquifer system. The hydrogeology staff manages groundwater monitoring networks of wells and springs, and performs detailed evaluations and interpretations of hydrologic and geologic data. The field services staff constructs and maintains monitoring wells, conducts aquifer performance tests, and provides geophysical well logging services. The resource assessment program works closely with the District’s Bureau of Water Resource Information to meet data collection needs and directly supports the Bureau of Water Supply and the Division of Regulatory Services.
