Gold Head Branch Springs

Clay County

Description

Gold Head Branch Springs originate from the unconfined surficial aquifer. The springs are a series of seeps along the steeply wooded ravines of Gold Head Branch. The 40- to 50-foot-deep ravines are incised along the trail ridge. Several access points, observation platforms, and trails to and along the ravines and spring run have been constructed by the Florida Park Service. The surrounding vegetation is composed of sandy soil scrub oak forest, commonly found on the ridge. The combined discharge from the seeps flows toward the southeast to Lake Johnson. Recreational activities within the Gold Head Branch State Park include swimming, picnicking, camping, fishing, and nature walks.
