Board approves ranking of REDI community and innovative projects to share $5 million

PALATKA, Fla., Feb. 9, 2016 –The St. Johns River Water Management District Governing Board today approved the ranking of projects that will share in $5 million in cost-share funds to benefit water resources in Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) communities and for projects that use innovative technology to provide data supporting future permitting and full-scale implementation of alternative water supplies.

“Through this program, we are partnering with REDI communities with projects they would have been financially unable to pursue without district assistance,” said District Executive Director Ann Shortelle. “The program also provides funding for innovative projects that use proven or emerging technologies that have not been permitted and implemented on a full scale in Florida, but have been elsewhere. We received an excellent response from applicants, and I’m excited to start moving forward on these great projects that will help improve and protect water resources in our communities.”
