Sheriff’s Office seeking public’s help in solving shelter fire

PALM BAY, Fla., March 23, 2016 –The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and Crimeline are seeking help from anyone who may have information about a weather shelter on the St. Johns River that burned on Feb 27.

The wooden structure, known as Canoer’s Shelter, burned to the ground in a fire that was either accidental or intentionally set. Built and maintained by the St. Johns River Water Management District, the building was located on the shoreline of the St. Johns River north of River Lakes Conservation Area (west of Viera), providing safety to boaters and kayakers during inclement weather.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477). Crimeline is offering a $1,000 reward.
