Watering restrictions begin this weekend
PALATKA, Fla., March 11, 2016 — Reset your sprinklers when you reset your clocks to mark the return of daylight saving time at 2 a.m. this Sunday, March 13.
“Spring planting season is here and that means it’s time to make water conservation a priority,” said St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Dr. Ann Shortelle. “The district’s year-round watering schedules encourage all of us to protect Florida’s water supply needs now and in the future.”
The district’s watering restrictions coincide with the return to daylight saving time on March 13, when landscape irrigation is allowed up to two designated days a week before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.
Landscape irrigation is limited to the following days:
- Wednesday and Saturday for residential landscape irrigation at addresses that end in odd numbers or have no address;
- Thursday and Sunday for residential landscape irrigation at addresses that end in even numbers; and
- Tuesday and Friday for nonresidential landscape irrigation.The restrictions apply to water withdrawn from ground or surface water, from a private well or pump, or from a public or private water utility. Some exceptions apply, such as the use of water from a reclaimed water supply, which is allowed any time except when a local government restricts the use of reclaimed water.To help homeowners save water, the district’s online plant database provides a comprehensive and searchable listing of plants most suitable for a variety of growing conditions.
