Women in the Outdoors turkey hunt to be held this weekend on district lands

PALATKA, Fla., March 31, 2016 — The St. Johns River Water Management District is partnering with the Gainesville chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) for a “Women in the Outdoors” turkey hunt April 2-3 at the Longleaf Flatwoods Reserve in Alachua County.

The River Styx tract, located on the southwest portion of the property, will be closed to other public access during this special hunt. Other portions of the property will be open to public access as usual.

The hunt will be led by the NWTF’s “Gator Gobblers” chapter. For information about the hunt visit the Gator Gobblers online.

Longleaf Flatwoods Reserve is a 2,856-acre tract located southeast of Gainesville and southwest of Hawthorne. The district and Alachua County purchased the property to aid protection of the Orange Creek and Ocklawaha River basins and to further the goals of the Alachua Forever program. The natural community diversity at Longleaf Flatwoods provides habitat for a wide variety of plant and animal species.
