District adds Pinterest to growing social media presence

MAITLAND, Fla., April 29, 2016 — The St. Johns River Water Management District recently launched a Pinterest page to further engage the community in protecting Florida’s natural resources. Fans can follow the district on Pinterest at pinterest.com/SJRWMD for a variety of visuals that promote sustainable use of Florida’s water.

“We remain committed to providing access to information about the district’s work through a variety of channels,” said St. Johns River Water Management District Communication Manager Tiffany Cowie. “Social media continues to be a valuable tool for engaging local audiences in new conversations about Florida’s water.

“Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share and discover creative ideas by posting (known as “pinning”) images or videos to virtual boards. The popular social network currently has 100 million monthly users. The district launched several Pinterest boards that reflect the organization’s diverse work:

  • District Lands features pins of trails and public lands with links to more information about recreational opportunities;
  • Water Conservation shares tips and ideas for water conservation indoors and outside; and
  • Waterwise Landscaping showcases landscaping inspiration and ideas that conserve water and help protect the surrounding environment.

The district uses social media to promote conservation and recreational opportunities as well as share information about public meetings, projects and events. Additionally, many people regularly turn to social media to ask questions or learn more about nearby water bodies or district properties

The addition of a Pinterest account comes only months after the district launched a Web-based newsroom that houses photos, videos and news releases available to the media and public. The district also regularly shares information on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For more information about connecting with the district visit www.sjrwmd.com/newsroom and www.sjrwmd.com/socialmedia.
