Board approves ranking of REDI community and innovative projects to share $5 million
PALATKA, Fla., Dec. 13, 2016 — The St. Johns River Water Management District Governing Board on Tuesday approved the ranking of projects that will share in $5 million in cost-share funds to benefit water resources in Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) communities and for projects that use innovative technology to provide data supporting future permitting and full-scale implementation of alternative water supplies.
“We are in our second round of providing financial assistance to REDI communities on projects they would have otherwise been unable to pursue,” said District Executive Director Ann Shortelle. “The program also provides funding for innovative projects that use proven or emerging technologies that have not been permitted and implemented on a full scale in Florida, but have been elsewhere. I’m looking forward to moving ahead on 10 great projects that will help improve and protect water resources in our communities.”
The district received 12 project applications. Ten projects were selected – eight in REDI communities and two innovative projects. Projects benefit one or more of the district’s core missions of water supply, water quality, natural systems restoration and flood protection.
