PALATKA, Fla., March 9, 2017 — The St. Johns River Water Management District is partnering with the Gainesville chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for a youth turkey hunt March 11-12 at the River Styx portion of Longleaf Flatwoods Reserve and the north tract of Newnans Lake Conservation Area in Alachua County.
The River Styx tract, located on the southwest portion of the property, will be closed to other public access during this special hunt. Other portions of the property, including all hiking trails, will be open to public access as usual.
In addition to the special hunt on the north tract of Newnans Lake Conservation Area, the Hatchet Creek tract is part of a wildlife management area that also will be closed to non-hunters this Saturday and Sunday.
