Remember to “Skip a Week” this winter and help Florida save a billion gallons of water

Skip a Week of Irrigation

PALATKA, Fla., Jan. 9, 2019 — The St. Johns River Water Management District is reminding homeowners across its 18-county region about the “Skip a Week” campaign to save water. During the cooler months of December, January and February, weekly irrigation isn’t always needed.

Grass doesn’t need as much water in cooler months — research shows that ½ to ¾ inches of water per irrigation zone every 10–14 days is sufficient.

If homeowners skipped every other week of watering this winter, north and east-central Florida could save about a billion gallons of water. Skipping every other week is as simple as manually turning off your irrigation system.
