Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive temporarily closing for the weekend

Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive marks 10 years of providing vehicular access, offering visitors a unique way to explore the scenic Lake Apopka North Shore from the comfort of their cars. You can access high-resolution photos of the Lake Apopka North Shore and Wildlife Drive here and b-roll drone video here.

The District will temporarily close the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive to motorized vehicles from Oct. 3–5 due to forecasted heavy rainfall.

The District recently completed the installation of slope-stabilizing materials and other roadwork along the drive. Heavy rainfall combined with thousands of vehicle trips could damage these improvements. Closing the drive to vehicles during this period will help protect the roadwork and ensure public safety.

The Lake Apopka Loop Trail and all pedestrian access gates will remain open to pedestrians and bicycles and is not affected by the temporary closure. For updates on closures to District lands, please check www.sjrwmd.com/lands/recreation/announcements or follow us on social media.
