The Burrell Lock will be closed beginning Friday, July 18, to facilitate essential construction upgrades. This scheduled closure is part of the District’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing the efficiency of our waterway systems. During the closure period, access to the Burrell Lock will be restricted to accommodate the necessary construction activities. Burrell Lock is expected to resume operations by this winter. The District is conducting a 110-acre prescribed burn at Black Creek Ravines Conservation Area to support sandhill restoration and reduce hazardous fuel loads. The burn is taking place on the western side of the property, from the main entrance gate heading north.

The District is conducting a 17-acre prescribed burn at the Micco Water Management Area in Brevard County, located within the Indian River Lagoon and Upper St. Johns River Basin. The burn area is in the central western portion of the property. This prescribed fire is essential for reducing hazardous fuel loads and maintaining the health of fire-dependent natural communities.

The District will temporarily close portions of the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive on select dates in August to allow for slope-stabilization work. The closures are necessary to ensure public safety during the installation of slope-stabilizing materials.

Rainfall across the District in July was slightly above the monthly average, with 9 of 18 counties recording above-average totals. Ten counties exceeded their 12-month averages, while three were more than 2 inches below. Precipitation varied widely, delivered by summer thunderstorms and frontal systems, including Invest 93L, which crossed the District in mid-July.

The District is conducting a pile burn at Sunnyhill Restoration Area in Marion County, within the Upper Ocklawaha River Basin. The pile burn’s purpose is to safely dispose of accumulated tree debris from the property.
