This report provides information on hydrologic conditions in the St. Johns River Water Management District for the specified period. The first section deals with the status of the resource; the second section (appendices) contains rainfall statistics.

This report presents data on past floods and the highest flood elevation recorded for 68 locations that have five or more years of streamflow records.

This report contains discussions of the SCS runoff procedures; four methods of estimating runoff curve numbers, the time of concentration, and a peak rate factor for different hydrologic conditions; a method of constructing a triangular unit hydrograph for a peak rate factor; and example problems illustrating the effects of methods used.

As part of the hydrological data collection program, a well was drilled at Sebastian Inlet State Recreation Area for the purpose of monitoring the upper two potable zones of the Sebastian freshwater lens. This report gives the geological and water quality data collected during well construction.

This report provides water resources information needed for water management decisions by state and local government agencies. An investigation of the water resources in Marion County was conducted from June to October of 1981 in order to delineate special problems and to set objectives for future research. Data from long-term records of precipitation, evaporation, stream discharge, lake stages, and groundwater levels were evaluated.

Due to a drought in 1980-81, the seasonal pattern of stage levels for the southern reach of the middle St. Johns River differed from the 30-year norm. Annual mean concentrations of several chemical constituents in the river doubled and, in some cases, tripled. Analyses of water quality data collected by governmental agencies form the basis for this report. Interpretive efforts were concentrated on data collected from 1976 through February 1982.

Phase 1 of this study deals with (1) the determination of flood elevations and the delineation of floodplain areas under existing land use conditions and assumed future development for the 10-, 25-, and 100-year design storms and (2) the determination of the effect of a change in the crest elevation of Lake Maitland weir on flood elevations upstream and downstream of the weir. Phase 2 consists of the development of a basin water management plan to reduce potential flooding and to protect the water resources of the basin. Volume I of this report contains results obtained from the Phase 1 study, and Volume II consists of an appendix of equations and an appendix of discharge and stage hydrographs.

This report is the culmination of several years of ongoing data collection efforts necessary to improve the existing database in order to meet the objective of quantifying diversion flows. The report includes a basinwide inventory of interbasin canals, with detailed descriptions and drainage basins, and a summary of the flow data that have been collected.

This report is concerned with urbanization and population growth in the Turkey Creek basin and the effects on water quality. The objectives of this study were (1) the determination of total runoff hydrographs and pollutant “loadings” for selected pollutants under existing land use conditions and future development and (2) the determination of the effects of urbanization on total runoff hydrographs and pollutant concentrations.

This report details the amount and locations of groundwater withdrawals in Clay County and a small portion of Bradford County.

Volume 1, the diagnostic study, reports the results and conclusions of ecological studies of the upper St. Johns River chain of lakes in four major areas: general water quality, agricultural pumpage water quality, the rate and nature of lake sedimentation, and the relationship between floodplain vegetation and hydrology. The results of the diagnostic study were used to develop restoration goals. These goals, and feasible means of attaining them, are the subject of Volume 2, the feasibility study.

The crown flood irrigation method is used for citrus production. This study was initiated with the purpose of monitoring the irrigation operations of a crown flood grove over two growing seasons and documenting the actual water use.

A review of fire ecology literature is presented, specifically addressing the environmental impacts of fire and the application of prescribed burning as a land management practice. Guidelines for the application of the prescribed fire to pertinent vegetation and/or fuel types are summarized.

This report summarizes the available data pertaining to the Econlockhatchee River and describes its biological and chemical status prior to the operation of the Iron Bridge sewage treatment plant. Existing as well as potential problems are discussed.

This reports evaluates the hydrologic and engineering aspects of an extreme drawdown of Lake Griffin. The study investigates the economic and technical feasibility and impacts of drawing down Lake Griffin to improve the sportfish habitat.

In 1980, the U.S. Geological Survey and the St. Johns River Water Management District participated in a cooperative study to determine the amount of groundwater withdrawn in the greater metropolitan Jacksonville area. One of the major purposes of this report was to locate withdrawals of water from the Floridan aquifer in Duval County. This report is basically a map with a sidebar of text.

This study provides quantitative information regarding the condition of the floodplain vegetation adjacent to the southernmost lake of the St. Johns River’s upper basin, Blue Cypress Lake. Additionally, the study was designed to elucidate the relationship between the spatial distribution of plant species and hydrology.

This one-year water use investigation was conducted to determine the actual water use of a typical fernery. Previously, only estimates of irrigation requirements of ferns were available. This study was intended to refine those estimates and to determine the magnitude of withdrawals during freeze protection periods.

Electric normal resistivity curves, natural gamma ray logs, and drillers’ logs from 50 wells were used to investigate the geology of the Ocklawaha Basin, Florida.

The St. Johns River Water Management District entered into a cooperative agreement to test drill and construct five observation wells for U.S. Geological Survey in the vicinity of Pierson, Florida, for the purpose of assessing the hydrologic impact of large withdrawals of groundwater used for the protection of ornamental ferns during below-freezing temperatures.

In this investigation, irrigation wells were measured for water level and sampled for water quality. A water use inventory of the intensive agricultural area was conducted, and irrigation pumps were rated according to discharge and electrical consumption capabilities. Monthly records of electrical consumption were used to determine amounts of groundwater withdrawals in the three counties.

Because of the importance of recharge areas to water resources of the St. Johns River Water Management District, a study of the hydrology of the Upper Etonia Creek area was undertaken. The period of data collection for this study was July 1975 — December 1976.

This report is part of a comprehensive surface water management study for the Upper Ocklawaha River Basin. The purpose of the study was to investigate with mathematical models the response of the lake levels to various storm events and water management alternatives. The Lake Griffin region was the first of four regions of this basin to be studied.
