Stretching 156 miles along Florida’s east coast, the Indian River Lagoon is one of the most diverse estuaries in North America and an important part of the region’s environment, economy and way of life. A new video from the St. Johns River Water Management District (District) takes viewers on a journey through the lagoon and highlights the people, partnerships and projects working to restore and protect it.

The latest installment of the District’s “Connected by Water” video series explores the challenges facing the Indian River Lagoon and the science and restoration efforts helping to improve its health. From monitoring seagrass and water quality to restoring natural systems and reducing nutrient pollution, the episode provides a closer look at the District’s work and the partnerships driving progress throughout the watershed.

“The Indian River Lagoon is a complex and dynamic system, and protecting it requires science, collaboration and a long-term commitment,” said Strategic Planning Basin Coordinator Melisa Diolosa. “This video gives viewers an opportunity to see the work happening across the watershed and meet some of the people dedicated to improving the lagoon for Florida’s communities and natural resources.”

The Connected by Water” series brings viewers beyond the surface of Florida’s lakes, rivers and springs, exploring waterways, communities and restoration efforts that help sustain the region’s water resources. The Indian River Lagoon episode is the latest installment in the series, which highlights the people and partnerships working together to protect Florida’s water resources.
