Although recent rainfall has improved conditions in some areas, much of the St. Johns River Water Management District continues to recover from a prolonged period of below-average rainfall. Water conservation remains essential as groundwater levels, rivers and other water resources work toward recovery.

The Apopka-Beauclair Lock will be temporarily closed to navigation from Monday, Sept. 14, through Thursday, Sept. 17, to allow for a scheduled inspection of the lock's concrete and steel structure.
The lock is expected to reopen and resume normal operations on Friday, Sept. 18.

The Headwaters Boat Ramp, including the kayak launch, at the Fellsmere Water Management Area (FWMA) will be temporarily closed September 8 –10 as the District continues the series of scheduled monthly closures to support maintenance and habitat restoration activities.

August brought a return to more typical summer rainfall patterns across the St. Johns River Water Management District. While rainfall totals varied considerably across the region, several inland counties received above-average rainfall, helping improve conditions in some previously dry areas.

On Friday, Sept. 18, the Lakeshore spur (from the pumphouse to Laughlin Road) section of the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive will be closed for restoration work. The remainder of the wildlife drive will remain open to visitors. Please use caution, as construction vehicles will be operating within the area. The Lakeshore Spur will reopen and resume normal operations on Saturday, Sept. 19.
