PALATKA, Fla., Sept. 30, 2022 — As Hurricane Ian makes its way up the east coast, St. Johns River Water Management District staff are beginning to assess properties across the 18-county region.

Here is a summary of the District’s current status of operations:

  • The District’s headquarters in Palatka, service centers in Palm Bay, Apopka and Jacksonville will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3.
  • District lands, including the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, will remain closed until staff evaluate them for public safety. Please check the District’s website for the latest on land re-openings at https://www.sjrwmd.com/lands/recreation/announcements/.
  • Listen to your local authorities on all flooding issues.
  • Local governments are the primary entities responsible for emergency responses during storms, such as implementing state-of-emergency declarations, evacuations and rescue efforts during flood-related disasters.
