The District is providing advance notice of temporary, recurring closures of the Headwaters Boat Ramp, including the kayak launch, at the Fellsmere Water Management Area (FWMA) to support scheduled maintenance and restoration activities.

The Headwaters Boat Ramp will be closed Monday through Thursday during the first full week of each month from May through September, excluding federal holidays. Scheduled 2026 closure dates are:

  • May 4–7
  • June 1–4
  • July 6–9
  • 3–6
  • 8–10 (Labor Day, Sept. 7, excluded)

These temporary closures allow the District to complete essential habitat management and restoration work, water quality monitoring and facility maintenance. Conducting this work during planned closure periods supports public safety, improves operational efficiency and helps maintain high-quality recreational facilities while minimizing long-term disruptions.

During the closures:

  • Western levee trails will remain open for hiking and bank fishing.
  • Alternative boat access to other waterbodies will remain available at the Fellsmere Grade Recreation Area (Stick Marsh) and the C-54 Boat Ramp, both of which will remain fully operational.

For frequently asked questions, closure details and updates on recreational access across all District-managed properties, visitors are encouraged to visit sjrwmd.com and check the Recreation announcements section for the most current information.
