The Headwaters Boat Ramp, including the kayak launch, at the Fellsmere Water Management Area (FWMA) will be temporarily closed June 1–4 as the District continues the series of scheduled monthly closures to support maintenance and habitat restoration activities.

This marks the first of five planned closures occurring June through September.

The Headwaters Boat Ramp will be closed Monday through Thursday during the first full week of each month, excluding federal holidays.

These temporary closures allow the District to complete essential habitat management and restoration work, conduct water quality monitoring and perform facility maintenance. Scheduling this work during planned closures supports public safety, improves efficiency and helps maintain high-quality recreational facilities while minimizing long-term disruptions.

During the June closure:

  • Western levee trails will remain open for hiking and bank fishing.
  • Alternative boat access will be available at the Fellsmere Grade Recreation Area (Stick Marsh) and the C-54 Boat Ramp, both of which will remain open.

The public is encouraged to plan and use alternative access points during closure periods.

For frequently asked questions, additional closure dates and updates on recreational access across all District-managed properties, visit sjrwmd.com and check the Recreation announcements section for the most current information.
