The District is conducting a pile burn at Sunnyhill Restoration Area in Marion County, within the Upper Ocklawaha River Basin. The pile burn’s purpose is to safely dispose of accumulated tree debris from the property.
Rainfall across the District in July was slightly above the monthly average, with 9 of 18 counties recording above-average totals. Ten counties exceeded their 12-month averages, while three were more than 2 inches below. Precipitation varied widely, delivered by summer thunderstorms and frontal systems, including Invest 93L, which crossed the District in mid-July.
The District is conducting a 487-acre prescribed burn on the south tract of Sunnyhill Restoration Area in Marion County, situated in the Upper Ocklawaha River Basin. The burn’s purpose is to reduce hazardous fuel loads and maintain fire-dependent natural communities.
Gov. Ron DeSantis joined the St. Johns River Water Management District, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Brevard County today to mark the completion of the Crane Creek/M-1 Canal Flow Restoration Project, a major step forward in efforts to improve water quality and protect the Indian River Lagoon.
The District will temporarily close portions of the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive on select dates in August to allow for slope-stabilization work. The closures are necessary to ensure public safety during the installation of slope-stabilizing materials.
